Choosing a registered migration agent starts with checking the individual’s registration and finding someone whose experience fits your circumstances. Then compare the proposed service, fees and communication. A claim to be the “best” is less useful than clear answers to those questions.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
Check the individual agent’s name and registration on the OMARA register.
Ask about experience with your visa pathway and the scope of the proposed service.
Compare written fees, responsibilities and communication before deciding.
01
Check the individual agent’s registration
Start with the person who will provide your migration advice, not only the business name. Ask for their Migration Agents Registration Number (MARN) and check the details on the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority register. ANZ Migration is led by Amit Kumar, MARN 0107293. His register entry is linked on our About page and in the website footer so you can check it directly.
02
Look for experience relevant to your situation
Describe the actual decision you need help with. An employer-sponsored application, a skilled migration plan and a partner application can involve different questions and evidence. Ask what the adviser would need to understand before recommending a direction. If your circumstances are complex, ask who would assess them and what further information is needed.
03
Compare the service as well as the fee
Ask for a written explanation of the proposed work and its cost. Useful questions include what the quoted service covers, which costs are separate, what could lead to further work and when payments would be due. Compare like with like: an initial consultation and preparation of a complete application are different services. Resolve unclear points before committing.
04
Agree how you will work together
Find out who your contact will be, how documents should be shared and how questions and updates will be handled. If you are overseas, discuss time zones and remote consultations. Being able to attend an office may be helpful, but a useful working relationship also depends on clear communication between appointments.
05
Read reviews in context
Reviews can help you understand how clients describe their experience of a team. Look for specific observations about explanation, communication and support, and check the original source where available. Another person’s visa approval does not establish your eligibility or predict your outcome. Use reviews alongside your own conversation with the adviser.
06
